If you like following traditions, then you probably love giving flowers to your mother during Mother’s Day. In the US in 1907, Anna Jarvis started a campaign to dedicate a special day for mothers. Anna’s mother died on May 9, 1905 and she swore that she would dedicate a special day for all mother – whether they are alive or dead. Carnations were first used to celebrate Mother’s day because it was Anna’s mother’s favorite flower and they grew it in their garden. On this day, white carnations are brought to gravesites for dead mothers. Red carnations (official Mother’s Day flowers) are presented to moms together with their breakfast in bed.
